Getting on my bike for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Group

In February 2023, 5 years to the day since I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, I am going to ride the Kōpiko Aotearoa, with friends and family, to raise funds for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Group.

The ride is 1,070 km long and all going well, should take 12 days.  We will be leaving from Cape Egmont, and riding our bikes across the volcanic plateau to East Cape.  The accumulated height gain will represent a theoretical multiple of ascending Mt Everest/Chomolungma.  I prefer not to think about that.  It is a challenge, traversing a beautiful country, with people of a like mind.  And it’s all for a terrific cause.

I will be posting my progress training, and when on the Kōpiko I’ll post pictures, video and updates of our ride when I can.

If you wish to support this adventure,  and the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Group, its easy.  Just go to the fundraising page, here.

Nga mihi

John
